NCT’s Jaehyun Is Still The Biggest “High School Musical” Stan — And Here’s The Proof
NCT‘s Jaehyun reminded us all of his American childhood and Millennial/Gen Z status when he showed his love for High School Musical recently!
Jaehyun lived in Connecticut from the ages of 5 to 10 before moving to Korea permanently with his family. He hasn’t been back to the state since moving away, but his American influences obviously haven’t left him! In particular, the Disney series High School Musical has a tight grip on him to this day!
Jaehyun: I used to live in USA when I was 5 until 10.
MC: Where did you lived?

Back in 2018 when NCT 127 appeared in a video from Teen Vogue, the group put together the “Playlist of their lives.” Each member chose a song that was significant to them, including songs by Stevie Wonder, Adele, and DEAN.
Jaehyun definitely had one of the most unexpected choices when he picked “Breaking Free” from High School Musical! He explained that he loved watching the whole series.
It might seem a bit corny, but I have to say this song from my childhood because I loved to watch the whole series of High School Musical. It was amazing! I love the scene of this movie when this song comes out; I love the image of this part so I chose this song.

Johnny jokingly said that Jaehyun even looks a bit like Zac Efron, who played the main character. Though we’re not sure we see it, we could definitely see Jaehyun playing a role like Troy Bolton!
Jaehyun’s love for High School Musical recently made a reappearance during NCT 127’s video with Clevver News. The group was given lyrics from some iconic songs and had to think of something it reminded them of. Doyoung got the opening lyrics to none other than Jaehyun’s childhood fave, “Breaking Free!”
No one else in the group knew the song at all, but Jaehyun reacted as soon as he heard the second word. Even Johnny (who spent most of his life in Chicago) and Mark (who grew up in the United States and Canada) didn’t know the song at all. Meanwhile, Jaehyun knew it well enough to even sing a bit of it!
