Red Velvet Fans Ask SM To Postpone “R to V” Tour Following Joy’s Hiatus Announcement

“Their first world tour without Joy is not good at all.”

Earlier today, SM Entertainment announced that Red Velvet‘s Joy will temporarily halt her activities due to health concerns. The company shared a statement on the group’s fan club platform KWANGYA CLUB, in which they explained that the Red Velvet member had visited the hospital. SM shared that, following examination and counseling, the doctors advised treatment and rest.

Hello,

We would like to inform you about Red Velvet Joy’s health and her participation in future schedules.

Joy recently visited a hospital due to her poor condition and following an examination and counseling, received the opinion from the doctors that treatment and rest were required.

Therefore, Joy will not participate in any schedules for the time being and will instead take a break to recover her health.

We apologize for causing concern to the fans and we ask for your understanding that this decision was made following thorough discussions with Joy, looking out for her health.

We will do our best to help Joy meet her fans in good health soon, and we will let you know as soon as possible once Joy will resume her activities.

Thank you.

The news follows Red Velvet’s R to V Singapore stop, during which Joy had to unexpectedly stop performing early. Fellow member Wendy explained that Joy had to leave the concert early as she was not feeling well. Despite this, Joy still tried her best to participate in the rest of Red Velvet’s concert, even singing some of the songs from backstage.

Following their Singapore show, Red Velvet have several more dates planned as part of their Asia R to V tour leg. On May 3 and May 4, the group will perform in Yokohama, Japan. On May 7, they will grace the MOA Arena in Manila, Philippines, and on May 13 and May 14, the group will hold their show in Bangkok, Thailand. Lastly, Red Velvet will finalize their Asia stops with a show on May 20 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

As Joy’s recovery is likely to take some time, the member will have to miss these shows, with some venues even confirming her absence following the company’s statement. The group’s Japanese website notified fans that Joy would not be attending the Japan concert dates, whereas the concert organizers for the Manila, Bangkok, and Jakarta stops posted their statements on social media.

After their Asia stops, Red Velvet are also set to do four more shows in Europe as well as participate in the popular Primavera Festival for two days. The group will kick off their European leg in Paris on May 24, continue to Berlin and Amsterdam on May 27 and May 30, respectively, and finalize the leg in London on June 6th. As there are only four days between the group’s Jakarta and Paris shows, fans are doubtful Joy will participate in the European stops.

Thus, ReVeluvs are now calling for the upcoming tour dates to get postponed until Joy can complete her recovery. Many fans have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts, with some saying having these shows without Joy is “unfair” to the idol and the fans who waited a long time to see her.

Many fans agree that, seeing as it’s hard to imagine Joy being back for the European concerts, a world tour without Joy would not make sense. One fan even said doing such a thing “is just very cruel to her.” Similarly, another fan shared that fans wouldn’t mind seeing the dates get moved back as they “have already waited this long for a tour” and “can definitely wait a bit more.

Red Velvet fans have also had other complaints regarding the tour, from late ticketing days announcements to the company booking venues too small for the group. Thus, fans are even more eager in demanding a postponement which would give Joy time to recover and the company time to plan a better tour.
