K-Pop Fan’s Boyfriend Questions Relationship After She Writes Gay Fanfiction Of Him And Her Favorite Male Idols
While its existence has been debated, fanfiction of nearly every type of entertainment has existed for as long as there have been fans. K-Pop fans also engage in fanfiction writing to such a degree that several idols topped the writing lists of the popular site AO3 for 2023.
Recently, a K-Pop fan’s boyfriend sought advice over his girlfriend writing fanfiction…but not for the reasons you might expect.
On the popular subreddit r/AmITheAsshole, a 19-year-old man asked users of the site for help in deciding if he was the asshole of his situation. He began by explaining that his girlfriend sent him a link to her Wattpad account, another popular writing site, and was left in horror of what it contained.
According to the OP, he was surprised that his girlfriend had a lot of fanfiction written but began feeling uncomfortable after finding a story that had his full name in it. After reading it, he realized it was a homosexual fanfiction featuring him and a K-Pop idol.
Hey l’m (19M) and my GF(18F) we’ve been dating for about 2 1/2 years now. All going smooth until a few days ago. She text me a link to a wattpad page and I opened it and I was shown her entire page. She had so much fanfic in there I was blown away. I was bombarded and then I read one because it had my name, then I started to get uncomfortable. She used my full name in the story and described me down to a tee. My GF Is also a huge K-Pop fan and it was a homosexual fanfic about me and said K-Pop member, just reading it had me feeling kind of sick.

After seeing that she went into great detail in the story and had multiple parts, he decided to stop and request that she no longer publicly post such content. The girlfriend exploded in anger at the request and called him insecure over it despite his reasoning that he didn’t want people finding it as it included his full name.
She went into great detail and it had an entire 7 part series about it, I decided to call it quits and closed out of the tab. It had a couple views behind it too. So after like 30 minutes I text her, “Hey, I saw what you wrote about me, could you please stop that or at the very least not post it publicly?” And she wasn’t having it. She blew up at me saying how I shouldn’t care, I’m insecure and a bunch of other things. I tried to reason with her on this as my immediate family and friends use wattpad and to be honest I just don’t like the idea of her using my full name and description out there like that. She called me a piece of shit for trying to restrain her. At this point I was just confused and asked her to call later, we called and she was still mad.

Users of the forum were solidly in agreement that he was not the asshole in the situation, advising him to take action over the privacy breach. Many also told him that she was not respecting his wishes, something that should be done in any relationship.
