Former SISTAR’s Soyou Shares The Top Advice She Has For K-Pop Idols Nearing Their Contract Expiration

Soyou spills on what she tells junior idols.

SISTAR‘s Soyou released the first episode of her new series, Soyou’s Guest House, on her personal YouTube channel. On the show, she “transports” guests to her hometown, Jeju Island, through a tropical backdrop and catches up with guests over food and drinks.

Her first guests were MAMAMOO‘s Solar and Moonbyul, who recently debuted as the group’s first sub-unit, MAMAMOO+.

As Soyou announced her first guests, MAMAMOO’s Solar and Moonbyul hilariously introduced themselves as a 4th-gen group due to their new sub-unit.

Although they introduced themselves as “4th-gen” idols, MAMAMOO debuted in 2014 after SISTAR, who debuted in 2010.

The two groups had similarities in their confident concepts and vocal talents and even held a joint concert in 2017, which was SISTAR’s final concert as a group.

The groups first met when they shared the same hair salon. Moonbyul hilariously revealed that she was scared of SISTAR due to their charisma and seniority in the entertainment industry.

Over the years, the members of the two groups grew closer, and Moonbyul revealed that she consulted with Soyou when it came time for MAMAMOO’s contract renewal in 2021.

Moonbyul, Hwasa, and Solar renewed their contracts with their company, RBW Entertainment, and it was announced that Wheein would continue promoting with MAMAMOO until December 2023, and she joined the music label THE L1VE in August 2021.

Soyou shared that many industry juniors seek her advice about contract renewals, and she consistently has one answer for them; “don’t disband.

Soyou acknowledged that although SISTAR disbanded, the members were all cool about it. The group reunited last summer on stage for the final episode of Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook, showing they remain close.
