How The Unlikely Friendship Between BTS’s RM And Jeon Somi Blossomed

When Jeon Somi made her comeback with “Fast Forward,” part of her promotions for the album included dance challenges and her variety program, Yes Or Hot.

One place she was able to celebrate with her friends was the star-studded launch party she threw for Game Plan. Some of the celebrity attendees included TWICE‘s Nayeon, Jihyo, and Chaeyoung, SEVENTEEN‘s Woozi, The8, and Mingyu, BIGBANG‘s Taeyang and G-Dragon, actor Joo Woo Jae, and many more.

Among the attendees was also BTS‘s RM, showing how big Somi’s celebrity friend circle really was, with idols from multiple K-Pop generations in attendance. During a fansign event, a curious fan asked Somi how she became friends with the BTS leader, and she revealed that it was a friendship that began not too long before the album’s release.

Somi revealed that they first met at BIGBANG G-Dragon’s PEACEMINUSONE x NIKE collaboration dinner, which was held in April 2023. Somi, BTS’s RM and Jimin, LE SSERAFIM‘s Kazuha and Yunjin, former Apink‘s Son Naeun, and actor and model Lee Soo Hyuk were just a few of the celebrities who attended the exclusive dinner.

The two found that they had many mutual friends in the industry, given RM’s debut in 2013 and Somi’s debut in I.O.I in 2016 following an appearance on the idol survival program SIXTEEN in 2015. Somi shared an additional tidbit about their friendship, saying that they often find themselves speaking to each other in English.
