Actor Won Bin Linked To Kim Sae Ron And Kim Soo Hyun’s Controversy Not Once, But Twice

A legendary star who rarely makes public appearances reportedly played a role in helping the late actress Kim Sae Ron and an informant behind the scenes.
As a child actress, Kim Sae Ron co-starred with Won Bin in The Man From Nowhere, Korea’s highest-grossing film in 2010. She won two “Best Actress” awards for her role at the Korean Film Awards and the Max Film Awards, and she was nominated for a third at the Baeksang Arts Awards.
Not long after filming wrapped, Won Bin gave young Kim Sae Ron gifts, including a pink laptop, a plush toy, a hairbrush, and a blanket. Although the two only had one project together, their connection seems to have lasted much longer than filming did.
Back in 2017, Korean media reported that Won Bin had quit smoking because of Kim Sae Ron. While filming The Man from Nowhere, he had to work closely with Kim Sae Ron, who was only 10 at the time. Out of consideration for her, he quit smoking and reportedly remained a non-smoker even after the filming ended.
After Kim Sae Ron was found dead in her home on February 16, 2025, Won Bin personally sent a wreath of condolence flowers to Kim Sae Ron’s wake and attended the wake. According to media reports, he appeared distraught and left quickly due to the attention his presence was attracting, given that he is not often spotted in public.
Recently, Won Bin made headlines in connection with the ongoing Kim Sae Ron and Kim Soo Hyun controversy. Among other things, Kim Soo Hyun has been accused of having sex with Kim Sae Ron when she was 14 years old. The wife of a brutally attacked informant claims that Won Bin helped and supported them. At the time, she didn’t know who he was, but she was very grateful to him.

However, this isn’t the first time that Won Bin’s name has come up during the controversy. In March, Kim Sae Ron’s aunt (a close family friend) spoke out in an exposé by Kim Se Ui of Garo Sero Institute. Not long after this, a netizen reportedly left a comment about Won Bin’s alleged involvement in the comment section of a Garo Sero Research Institute video. According to Korean media reports, this netizen said that Won Bin was aware that Kim Sae Ron was suffering because of her ₩700 million KRW debt to GOLD MEDALIST (her former agency), and he had planned to pay it off for her.
