A YouTuber recently shared a shocking allegation of an encounter she had with a K-Pop idol in the hopes it would provide a valuable lesson to those who could end up in a similar situation.
Kyurin is a multilingual traveler who discusses East Asian culture, beauty, and lifestyle on her YouTube channel. She recently shared a video telling the story of a time, eight years ago, when her meeting with a K-Pop idol went entirely wrong.
Kyurin grew up as a fan of Korean pop culture and would often post K-Pop dance covers on social media. Eight years ago, one of her dance cover videos went viral and caught the attention of a male K-Pop idol, who interacted with the post. Kyurin woke up the next day to a message from the idol saying he wanted to follow her on a more private app, so they moved to KakaoTalk and Snapchat.
Shortly after they began chatting, Kyurin’s family traveled to Korea for vacation. She admitted that at the time, she viewed Korea through rose-colored glasses because of her years of being a fan of Korean entertainment.
She said that on her trip she met with the idol in Gangnam and the interaction started innocently. She was excited about the attention they were drawing, and the fact that she was sitting in front of this idol in person.
After walking around the city a bit and stopping at a cafe, the mood changed and the idol started to move closer to her. She became uncomfortable because she was only 15 years old and he was in his early twenties. Being unfamiliar with the city, she continued to follow his lead and he eventually came to a stop at a love hotel. If you’re unfamiliar, a love hotel is a short-stay hotel that is often used for sexual rendezvous.
He asked her to go in and she refused with an excuse that she needed to return to her parents who were waiting for her at their hotel. He tried to persuade her and she began walking back to the train station. He followed and told her he understood why she declined and walked her back to the hotel, ending their night with an unexpected kiss.
As she was getting ready to sleep that night, she received an unsolicited nude picture from him on Snapchat. After she ignored the picture, he sent another the following morning. When she confronted the older male, he blamed his actions on his controlling management team and his company saying they prevent him from dating which left him feeling lonely. She reported that she returned home from her trip to Korea and blocked the idol.
She shared this story to remind viewers that it is easy to be disillusioned by the clean-cut images that celebrities and their companies work hard to maintain. This is especially true if you are a young, impressionable fan, just as she was at the time. She makes an important statement that celebrities are humans, just like us. They have wants and needs and are not perfect; they are flawed like everyone else.
It can be easy for a person in a position of fame to take advantage of fans with innocent love for their idols. Similar scenarios have happened with famous figures around the world. Luckily, Kyurin’s story ended there. She hopes it will serve as a lesson that no matter how celebrities appear to the world, they may not always be what they seem.
The whole story can be viewed below. Throughout the video, blurred faces of various K-Pop idols appear. It is important to note that the idol’s identity has not been revealed and the blurred photos are not of the idol who is the subject of the story.
