ILLIT’s Second Live Encore Earns Dramatically Mixed Reactions

Many felt they improved from the last encore.

The newest HYBE girl group, ILLIT, has already seen chart-topping success, leading to some music show wins. Last week, the group earned their first-ever win on The Show and won again during the second week of April, up against KISS OF LIFE and NOWADAYS.

Like most music show wins, ILLIT participated in the customary live encore following their award speeches.

These encores serve as a way of gauging an artist’s live skills as they happen without backing tracks. The group’s first encore pleased netizens, leading many to anticipate how they would sound during their second.

Previously, the group did not perform any choreography during the encore stage; however, this time, several members did, especially Wonhee. Fans found the group to have improved over the last week, likely as they have had time to get used to performing after debut.

Kids, stop eating the CD.

However, many still found fault with the new girl group’s performance.

Netizens called out the members’ singing skills, finding them less than impressive, especially as they mostly stood still. In particular, viewers felt Moka‘s performance had not improved.

Korean netizens also shared their thoughts on the encore, which were just as mixed.

  • No, what are we going to do about Moka…
  • Wonhee debuted with a really short training period, so it’s okay. It seems like she’ll get better gradually. Minju is doing well.
  • They said it was because Moka cried last time, but she still sounds the same.
  • It’s like middle school students went to do karaoke.
  • Isn’t that what HYBE is good at? They prove through their results that they don’t need CD-worthy live performances, perfect pitch, or amazing vocal skills, and it will work if they push ahead with planning skills. LOL. In the process, it’s revealed to the whole world that singing is not the main job for idols.
  • It’s better than the last encore but still a bit lacking.
