BTS RM Featured In “40 Under 40” List By Apollo Art Magazine

He’s collecting accolades in every field.

BTS‘s leader RM has become one of the most revered patrons in the art world, appreciated for his philanthropy to uphold Korean art. With the world taking note of his role as an art enthusiast, Apollo International Art Magazine has named him one of their “40 Under 40 Asia Pacific” inspirational artists and creative innovators.

RM is included in the list as a collector, with a long paragraph dedicated to praising his contribution to the world of art in recent years.

‘Art embraces the world of dream and disorder’, RM tells Apollo. ‘It creates awareness and opens a window for how we perceive the world.’

Recently, RM participated as a narrator in the first major exhibition of modern Korean art in the West, namely, The Space Between: The Modern in Korean Art held by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). He also earned national praise for financing the restoration work of a Joseon Era artifact owned by LACMA. His personal collection also boasts of timeless pieces by major abstract artists such as Yoo Youngkuk, YunHyong Keun, Kim Whanki, and Kim Tschang Yeul.

It is worth noting that RM’s niche interest in art also potentially reflects his worldview. He is a noted admirer of Roni Horn, a well-known queer artist whose works focus on the concept of time. He also bought the work of Jung Young Joo whose artistry largely focuses on the lives of marginalized Koreans. As the narrator of the LACMA exhibition, RM chose to narrate the self-portrait of Rha Hye Seok, the pioneering figure of Korean feminism.
