Oh Yoanna’s Family Denies That Kim Ga Young Was One Of Her Main Bullies
The family of the late weathercaster Oh Yoanna has spoken up about MBC weathercaster Kim Ga Young, who was effectively kicked out of the broadcasting industry after being accused of bullying Oh.
On February 7, KST, the bereaved family’s attorney Jeon Sang Beom appeared on TV Chosun‘s news program and stated that among Oh Yoanna’s colleagues, there were some main perpetrators and then there were those who “simply conformed or remained bystanders,” adding that the bereaved family didn’t intend to “hurt everyone on the weather team.”
This statement came in light of the severe public criticism against weathercasters and people around them after Oh Yoanna’s workplace bullying came into light after her death. In particular, Kim Ga Young, a well-known weathercaster, had to step down from her shows and even resign as an ambassador for Paju City. She was accused of being one of the main perpetrators of Oh Yoanna’s workplace harassment.
However, attorney Jeon revealed that the bereaved family has filed a civil suit against only one person and the accusations against Kim were not true.
According to what the bereaved family has revealed so far, Kim Ga Young is not the direct perpetrator. The bereaved family is concerned that someone who was merely a bystander is being misunderstood as the main perpetrator.

Attorney Jeon urged the public to focus on the core of the case, which was demanding a systematic improvement against workplace harassment. “We are afraid that the situation will be politicized or framed in a way that clouds the true issue,” he added.
Though Kim’s name was cleared as the main perpetrator, it is understood that the bereaved family wants her and other colleagues who were not the direct culprits to issue apologies. They also identified the primary perpetrator through the YouTube channel Garo Sero Research Institute.

The family member also claimed that Lee Hyung Seung never came to pay her respects to Oh after her passing despite promising her mother that she would do so. Recently, MBC’s secretary-general Ahn Hyung Joon and policy cooperation director Kim Jung Ho visited the family and allegedly showed a “shameless” attitude. They supposedly claimed that Oh Yoanna’s incident was an internal issue of the weather team and nobody else at the network was aware of it. The family member also claimed that MBC lied about the bereaved family not wanting an obituary to be issued.
As Oh Yoanna’s workplace bullying case unfolds further, netizens are worried about the possibility of a coverup as MBC and its weathercasters go about business as usual. Weathercaster Park Ha Myung appeared on the channel’s News Today on February 7, as scheduled, prompting a flood of complaints from viewers.
