Music Industry Insider Sheds Light On Wheesung’s Final Days, Insists He Wouldn’t Take His Own Life
On March 10, KST, singer and songwriter Wheesung was found dead in his home at 43. The sudden passing of the singer left his colleagues bereft, and authorities announced an investigation to determine the cause of his death.

The National Forensic Services (NFS) conducted an autopsy but later stated that the determination of Wheesung’s cause of death was being put on hold since it required more precise analysis. The detailed autopsy report is expected to take at least two weeks.
Amid this situation, a close acquaintance of Wheesung has come forward to communicate some important details about the singer to the public to protect his reputation from ceaseless speculations. The individual is identified as Mr. Heo, a Chinese national working as a general manager at H Music Korea, a subsidiary of Tencent Music Entertainment.
I wanted to step forward in his stead because Wheesung hyung‘s reputation was being damaged, and he would’ve felt wronged.
— Mr. Heo
Heo explained that Wheesung was in “great spirits” and was looking forward to the new opportunities coming his way soon. Hence, he emphasized that it was highly unlikely for the singer to have taken his own life.
According to Heo’s statement, Wheesung was in China from March 6 to March 8 to discuss his career opportunities in the country. Heo accompanied him throughout, up until their return to Korea together. During this visit, Wheesung apparently finalized a deal to expand his career in China and sign a contract with H Music. The singer was reportedly planning to relocate to China after completing his upcoming March concerts.

Heo mentioned that Wheesung was so eager to sign a new deal and initiate a new phase of his career that on March 7, he wanted to finalize the deal with H Music right away, even though Heo only had a basic contract template with him for review purposes. Wheesung went so far as to handwrite the entire agreement himself. Heo recalled that the singer appeared very enthusiastic and energetic about his next career move.
Wheesung was going to work in the Chinese industry as a songwriter and producer. According to Heo, he had agreed to compose or collaborate on 200 songs over five years, with each project estimated to receive a production budget of ₩100 million KRW (about $68,900 USD). After returning to Korea, Heo recalled that Wheesung gave him a hug and talked excitedly about working together.
While Heo was preparing a home and a studio for Wheesung in China, he received the devastating news of Wheesung’s passing only a couple of days later. The two had a meeting scheduled for March 11, but on the night of March 10, Wheesung was no more.
Heo requested an interview with local media to not only share the final moments of the singer with his fans but also to voice his concerns surrounding his death.
I can’t, for the life of me, understand why he died. He was so excited with the anticipation of a new challenge..How could someone who was so excited for tomorrow think of dying? Something must have gone wrong, or perhaps a mistake led to this tragedy. This death doesn’t feel real to me.
— Mr. Heo
