On April 16, KST, the Suwon High Court’s Criminal Division 2-3 held the final appeal hearing for Yoo under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes. He was on trial for the forcible sexual assault of the sister of his then-wife, actress Sunwoo Eun Sook.

In 2024, the actress’s legal representatives officially announced that she had made the decision to divorce Yoo and had filed a complaint with the Bundang Police Station for forcibly molesting her elder sister. Yoo had consistently denied the accusations, even during the first trial, where he was facing a five-year prison sentence with additional penalties. The court ended up handing him a two-and-a-half-year sentence, and he was taken into custody right after the hearing. He appealed the decision immediately on the grounds of misrepresentation of facts and unfair sentencing. The prosecution also filed an appeal on the grounds of improper sentencing.

During the appeal hearing on April 16, Yoo admitted to his crimes. In his final statement, he issued an apology to the victim.

I have reflected on my past actions. I lacked awareness of boundaries between emotional closeness and sexual conduct. I was wrong. I sincerely apologize to the victim who was hurt by my actions, and I bow my head in deep remorse and apology.
