Notorious Korean YouTuber Sentenced To Prison For Assaulting Elderly Taxi Driver

It was one of its many crimes.

A male YouTube creator in his 20s has been sentenced to prison for assaulting an elderly taxi driver and committing various other crimes.

The Jeonju District Court’s Jeongeup branch recently sentenced the YouTuber to two years and six months in prison on charges of assault, special assault, fraud, and inflicting injury, among others.

According to reports, between November 2023 and April 2024, the YouTuber, identified as Mr. A, caused injuries to multiple customers at restaurants and bars in Jeonju and Gwangju by throwing broken glass at them and swinging metal chairs. In addition, he duped an acquaintance of ₩12.5 million KRW (about $8,690 USD) and a caregiver of their ₩600,000 KRW (about $417 USD) fee after using their service without pay.

In February last year, “A” also assaulted an elderly taxi driver near the Jeonju Bus Terminal, which thrust his crimes into the public eye. Even more shockingly, he used this crime to promote his YouTube channel later by using keywords such as “Taxi Driver Assault” and “Tattooed Assaulter.”

Notably, the YouTuber admitted to his crimes and reached a settlement with some of his victims. However, the courts deemed it an insufficient measure, given the nature of his repeated violence and use of dangerous objects to inflict it. The ruling stated that his “repeated offenses and blatant disregard for social order necessitate a prison term,”
