Korea’s First Lesbian Dating Show Triggers Ruthless Backlash With Response To “Racy Streamer” Controversy
The production team of ToGetHer — Korea’s first lesbian dating show — is facing intense backlash following their response to the ongoing controversy surrounding one of the cast members, Kim Riwon.

The contestant, who has been accused of previously engaging in racy streaming, issued an emotional apology after allegations about her past went viral. However, the situation has escalated further with criticism directed at the show’s handling of the matter.

Following Riwon’s statement, the production team issued an official statement addressing the issue. They acknowledged the concerns raised by viewers and explained the casting process for the show, stating that they conducted thorough screenings with potential cast members. Despite this, the statement clarified that they could not verify every aspect of the cast members’ backgrounds, resulting in the current controversy.

“Hello, this is Display Company.
First, we would like to sincerely thank everyone who has shown love and support for ToGetHer. We deeply regret and take full responsibility as the production team for the recent concerns caused by issues involving one of the cast members.
We want to provide some clarification regarding the production process and casting.
Casting was carried out through public recruitment announcements, and in some cases, through casting directors who matched the direction and tone of the show, who then reached out to potential cast members to confirm their interest. We want to make it clear that there were no illegal or inappropriate methods involved in the casting process.
In addition, we conducted three rounds of in-depth meetings with each cast member to review and assess their suitability carefully. Nevertheless, we acknowledge that our ability to identify and verify every aspect was limited, and we sincerely apologize for the unintended concern this has caused viewers.
We are also deeply saddened by the current situation in which excessive slander and malicious comments about the cast are spread across certain online communities and social media platforms. We earnestly ask that such indiscriminate attacks and hateful expressions come to an end.
Once again, we thank all the viewers of ToGetHer, and Display Company will continue to approach the production of this program with greater care and responsibility.”

The production team did not announce any plans to make changes to the program, and this has seemingly fueled heavy criticism.

- “They’re not even going to edit her out? Based on some posts, it seemed like her content was seriously concerning.”
- “This has been a total disaster from the start.”
- “They’re not editing her out? Are they out of their minds? LOL. Didn’t they get any ads/sponsors for the show? Surely, they’d complain. This is insane.”
- “We’re looking past adult streaming? Oh, OK…”
- “This is disgusting.”
- “Can’t do anything about it, just have to go with it.”
As the controversy continues to unfold, it remains to be seen if this will impact the show’s viewership.
