“EXchange 2” Popular Contestant Sentenced To Two Years In Prison

He was caught drunk driving.

On May 12, 2025, according to News1, prosecutors requested a two-year prison sentence for actor Kim Tae I during his first court hearing at the Seoul Central District Court. He is facing charges for causing injury while driving under the influence.

Additionally, a friend of Tae I’s, identified as Mr. Moon, faces a fine of ₩5.00 million KRW (about $3,580 USD) for allegedly making false statements by claiming to have been the driver at the time of the incident. He had tried to take the blame as Tae I is a public figure, both an actor and an influencer.

Kim Tae I’s lawyer explained that he has been trying his best to rectify his mistake. Allegedly, he transferred ownership of his car to a friend in order to prevent a similar mistake from happening.

“He committed the offense while waiting for a designated driver and moved the vehicle at the repeated request of a parking attendant. He has been trying to arrange compensation, and we ask the court for leniency.”

In his final statement, Tae I also expressed deep remorse promising that he would live in reflection and make sure such matters would not happen again.

The incident occurred around 5 a.m. on September 15, 2024, in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Kim Tae I, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, struck a pedestrian while driving. The victim sustained minor injuries. You can read more about it below.
