“Fake Pregnancy” Ex-Girlfriend’s New Boyfriend’s Involvement In Blackmailing Son Heung Min Exposed

Here’s all the gritty details.

Two individuals have been arrested by Seoul’s Gangnam Police for attempting to extort money from South Korean national football team captain Son Heung Min by falsely claiming he had fathered a child. It was previously reported that Son had been the victim of blackmail when his ex-girlfriend falsely claimed she was pregnant. Investigations revealed that the ex’s new boyfriend was heavily involved.

The suspects include a woman in her 20s, referred to as Ms. A, and a man in his 40s, referred to as Mr. B. Ms. A has been charged with blackmail, while Mr. B faces charges of attempted blackmail. Police conducted a search and seizure of both suspects’ residences following their arrests on May 14, 2025.

According to investigative sources, Son Heung Min had previously been in a relationship with Ms. A. In June 2024, she allegedly contacted Son’s representatives claiming she was pregnant, presenting what is now believed to be a fabricated ultrasound image. Under pressure and concerned about the potential damage to Son’s career and public image, his side reportedly transferred ₩300 million KRW (about $213,000 USD) to Ms. A.

An agency representative said the decision to comply at the time was made out of fear that the spread of false information could harm both Son and his team, Tottenham Hotspur. Upon receiving the payment, Ms. A reportedly signed a written statement promising to keep the matter confidential.

It was later exposed that the timeline Ms. A provided regarding the alleged pregnancy did not match Son’s own account of their relationship. Police are now reviewing evidence amid growing suspicion that the pregnancy claim was entirely fabricated.

The situation escalated further earlier this year after Ms. A broke off contact with Son and began a relationship with Mr. B. Upon discovering her previous dealings with Son, Mr. B allegedly attempted to blackmail the footballer once again in March 2025. He reportedly demanded an additional ₩70.0 million KRW (about $49,700 USD) threatening to reveal the supposed pregnancy to the media.

Son’s manager, who endured months of threats from Mr. B, eventually informed the player of the extortion attempts. In response, Son instructed his team to take firm legal action. No further money was paid to Mr. B.

It has since been revealed that Mr. B has a prior criminal record involving similar offenses. The case is now under further investigation, with authorities reviewing the materials submitted by Ms. A for possible forgery and further charges.
