Shocking Twist In Son Heung Min’s Pregnancy Blackmail Case With Police Unable To Find Evidence Against Ex-Girlfriend

The man and woman who allegedly attempted to blackmail South Korean football star Son Heung Min by falsely claiming pregnancy and demanding a large sum of money have been referred to the prosecution.

The investigation that went on recently was expected to determine whether the two individuals acted in collusion. Outlets such as Dispatch had accused the two of colluding to blackmail Son together. It is said that the pair had begun dating after she broke up with Son. Later reports claim that they were not dating, but were simply acquaintances. The ex-girlfriend, a woman in her 20s identified only as Ms. Yang, reportedly extorted ₩300 million KRW (about $218,000 USD) from Son last year. She was originally charged with blackmail. The man, who is in his 40s, demanded an additional ₩65.0 million KRW (about $47,300 USD) from Son’s side in March 2025 was also charged with attempted blackmail.

Authorities examined the possibility that the two acted in concert to target Son, but police ultimately did not charge them with joint blackmail. Investigators reviewed their financial records and other evidence but reportedly found no conclusive proof of collusion. As part of the ongoing investigation, police also searched the medical clinic visited by Ms. Yang. The search aimed to secure the original version of medical records previously submitted voluntarily by the clinic. It seems like the search did not turn up anything and no evidence against Ms. Yang was secured.

In light of this news, in addition to the NDA that Son Heung Min’s side allegedly made Ms. Yang pen upon the reception of the money, the public seems to have switched sides. Many believe that she had simply reached out to him about the pregnancy, received money without intentions of blackmail, and signed an NDA in return. The other suspect later found out about her relationship with Son and moved to blackmail him without her knowledge.
