Adult Streamer Gets Seven Years In Prison For Extortion Of Popular Male Idol
The Supreme Court of South Korea has confirmed the prison sentence of a female adult streamer for extorting money from a popular male idol.

On June 24, Korean media reported that the Supreme Court had dismissed the appeal of “A,” a female BJ (broadcasting jockey), after she was sentenced to seven years in prison by the Seoul High Court in May. With this verdict, her prison sentence has been confirmed.
“A,” who was active on the online streaming platform, Soop 9the predecessor of Afreeca TV), was brought to trial on charges of extorting a total of ₩840 million KRW (about $613,000 USD) from singer and TVXQ member Kim Junsu. She reportedly threatened him 101 times between September 2020 and October 2024. “A” had reportedly recorded a private conversation with Kim and threatened to release it publicly on social media.

During the trial, the streamer’s legal representatives argued that she committed the crime under the influence of drugs.
They were addicted to propofol and unable to make rational decisions, making them commit the crime to secure money for drugs…They did not intentionally approach the victim to record them. Some of the money was used to pay off their father’s hospital bills as he was battling prostate cancer.

Ms. A expressed deep remorse over her actions in court, stating that she felt that her life was over after hurting her parents with this incident.
She was first sentenced to seven years in prison by the Uijeongbu District Court, matching the sentence requested by the prosecution. However, both the defendant and the prosecution appealed the sentence. The high court ended up maintaining the ruling, stating that “A” had used recordings and pictures from her private relationship with Kim Junsu to demand money after the relationship became sour. Given the duration and the method of the crime, the high court felt that the sentence was appropriate.
Ms. A also admitted in court that she had sent the recording of her conversation with the idol to a journalist two years ago. In her final statement, the streamer apologized to Kim Junsu and stated that she had sent him multiple letters of apology, promising not to repeat her crime. She also mentioned that when she returns to society, she would acquire a nursing license to help patients like her father.
