Yang Hyun Suk Sentenced To Probation For Blackmail Charges Related To B.I’s Drug Scandal

He will be under probation.

Yang Hyun Suk has been officially sentenced to probation for his role in blackmailing an informant related to B.I‘s drug use case.

On July 18, the Supreme Court and Chief Justice Ma Yong Joo reconfirmed the ruling made in the previous trial, and confirmed his punishment as one year of probation. Should he violate his probation, Yang Hyun Suk will then be required to serve six months in prison.

Yang Hyun Suk was indicted on charges of coercion and intimidation by forcing Han So Hee to change her statement in August 2016, telling her he didn’t like his “children” going to the police and threatening that it wouldn’t be difficult to kill her. Yang Hyun Suk denied the allegations, confiming he met with Han So Hee but never threatened her. In the end, he was judged not guilty due to lack of evidence.

During the appeals trial, the court overturned the not guilty ruling and sentenced him to one year of probation, with six months in prison should he violate the terms of probation, citing his abuse of power using his higher social status.
