“Boys II Planet” Contestant Gets Accused Of Lying About His Background
Yet another Boys II Planet contestant has gotten embroiled in a major controversy for allegedly lying about his background.
The contestant in question is Kang Woo Jin.

The controversy stems from an online comment left by a netizen who claimed to be Kang’s former classmate. In the comment, they contested his country boy image on the survival show, revealing that he attended elementary, middle, and high school in Goyang.

The netizen pointed out that despite clearly growing up in Goyang, which is a satellite city of Seoul, Kang has been portrayed as a country boy who grew up in Boryeong, a small coastal town. “Where did the ‘4 years as a trainee’ story even come from?” the netizen asked.
Another user on Instiz, who came across these comments, dug deeper to verify the claims and came across yearbook photos of Kang, which confirmed that he did his schooling in Goyang.

The OP (original poster) mentioned that even if Kang’s birthplace was Boryeong, the show fabricated his background to build an image of a “pure countryside boy who came up to Seoul after busking in Boryeong,” misleading viewers.
The Instiz post has since gone viral, with over 230,000 viewers. Other netizens have joined in the discussion, speculating on the truth behind Kang Woo Jin’s background and the show’s intention behind the possible fabrication.
