According to reports, after Tsumugi was introduced to the group’s lineup, Japanese netizens quickly discovered at least three adult movies in which she had acted under the stage name “Miyuki.” The content was found on a popular adult movie platform, sparking backlash almost immediately.

Fans of Icecream Scream criticized Tsumugi for hiding her past from the public before joining the group. As the backlash grew stronger, the group’s agency issued an official statement, informing the public that they had terminated the contract with Tsumugi.

The agency claimed that the rookie idol had concealed her previous career from them as well, and mentioned that she had deactivated all her social media accounts shortly after the announcement of her removal, which confirmed that she had completely withdrawn from the entertainment scene.

Icecream Scream, a girl group based in Hokkaido, debuted in March 2011 and has maintained a sizable following in Japan. Though this controversy has come as a shocker to its loyal fanbase, this wouldn’t be the first time an idol’s scandalous past has caused a ruckus in the industry. Nagase Kako, a member of Iroha Sakura, was also discovered to have ties with the adult film industry and was subsequently dismissed from the group.

However, with changing times, public response to such controversies has changed. The news of Icecream Scream’s agency terminating their contract with Tsumugi was met with divided reactions, as some criticized the label for not doing their due diligence during background checks, while others debated how fair it was to judge an idol based on their past.

Despite the controversy, the group seems to have moved on, resuming their activities with the remaining members.
