A shocking case has gone viral in China after a woman was ordered to pay $31,000 USD to her boyfriend’s family following his tragic death.

The woman, Liu, received a call from her boyfriend who was drunk, telling her he was going to take his own life. She then drove rom her home in Yucheng to Hejin to pick him up.

After she tried comforting him, he didn’t listen and the couple began to argue. She then said, “You have been saying you want to die for the whole night. Did you die yet?” He leapt out of the moving car and was pronounced dead after a week of medical treatment.

Although Liu was initially investigated for negligent homicide, prosecutors ruled her negligence was “slight.” After negotiations, she compensated the family and received a letter of forgiveness, with the case ultimately dropped.
