How The Now-Successful K-Drama Star Moved Past Her “Idol-Turned-Actress” Label
Beloved Girls’ Generation member YoonA opened up about her experiences as both an idol and actress on the latest episode of tvN‘s You Quiz On The Block.

When host Yoo Jae Suk asked about the prejudice she faced as an “idol-turned-actress,” YoonA responded that she had always tried to focus on the work at hand, not the label. While admitting that she landed more opportunities thanks to the fame gained from being a part of a fan-favorite girl group, YoonA pointed out that it was ultimately her dedication to perform well in her role that helped her get to where she is now!

I think what mattered most to me was just doing well. Of course, there were opportunities that came from the popularity gained through my previous activities in front of the public, but I’ve always thought that if I can’t make good use of those chances, then there won’t be a next one.
If I can show a performance that makes everyone nod in agreement, then even people who don’t want to nod will end up having to. So, in the end, it all depends on me…I’ve felt that if I just keep doing well, the positive responses follow.

The idol-turned-actress also added that she is supportive of fellow idols choosing to expand their careers into acting, especially now that such a prejudice isn’t as much of a hurdle as it had been in the past.

When I see friends who once promoted with me as idols now sitting as actors at award shows, it makes me feel happy and supportive, even if I wasn’t personally close to them.
