The restaurant later filed a civil lawsuit. On September 12, the Shanghai Huangpu District People’s Court ruled that Tang, Wu, and their parents must jointly pay 2.2 million yuan (about $309,699 USD) for property damage, reputational harm, and legal fees.

Social media users reacted strongly, with some calling the penalty too lenient as the restaurant originally sued for over 3 million USD.
