K-Pop Artist Joins “No Music For Genocide” Movement In Support Of Palestine

A K-Pop artist has joined the “No Music For Genocide” global movement.

As Israel’s onslaught on Palestinian lives, especially in the Gaza Strip, only continues its ravages, artists from all over the globe are now coming forward to stand against the atrocity. One of the collective actions making buzz online is the newly launched “No Music for Genocide” initiative, which has been joined by over 400 singers and artists around the world.

This movement calls for a cultural boycott of Israel by removing the signatories’ music from Israeli streaming platforms in protest of the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Some big names that have joined the movement include British band Massive Attack, Irish band Kneecap, American indie act Japanese Breakfast, and pop star Rina Sawayama.

It was also recently revealed that a K-Pop artist had also joined the boycott, and the artist in question is BÉBE YANA. She has reportedly geoblocked all her music in Israel, standing firm on her support for Palestine, and her name also appears on the movement’s website.

BÉBE YANA, formerly known as Hayana, is an Australian-South Korean singer-songwriter. She is also a former member of a girl group called EvoL. In 2017, she made her debut as a soloist with her first digital single, “Wish.” After going on a hiatus from 2017 to 2021, she rebranded herself as BÉBE YANA and resumed her music career. She is currently signed to the Seoul-based record label and distribution company, A Mass Culture.
