63-Year-Old Woman Marries Man Younger Than Her Own Son

As long as they’re happy!

A 63-year-old Japanese woman, affectionately called “Princess,” has officially married her 31-year-old partner, nicknamed “Prince” — even though she is six years older than his own mother.

The couple, who now run a marriage agency together, say their relationship began with a twist of fate that blossomed into an unlikely romance.

Known publicly as Azarashi, the woman was married for over two decades before divorcing at age 48. She raised her child as a single mother while focusing on her pet clothing business and living with her dogs. Though she dabbled in dating apps and had a few relationships, nothing lasted until August 2020, when she found a misplaced phone in a Tokyo café. The phone’s owner, a young man, came to collect it, sparking a connection that would change her life.

Just a week later, they ran into each other again on a tram. After exchanging numbers, they began speaking for hours every night. Azarashi recalled how genuinely engaged he seemed with everything she said, from her daily life to her hobbies. On their very first date, he gave her a handwritten note that simply read: “Please be my princess.”

The pair didn’t reveal their actual ages until about a month into dating. By then, their feelings had grown so strong that neither considered walking away.

Azarashi’s son — who is six years older than the groom — gave his blessing. The groom’s mother, however, initially opposed the relationship, pointing out that she was younger than her future daughter-in-law. She eventually relented after witnessing her son’s determination.

The two registered their marriage in December 2022. Three years later, they still affectionately call each other “prince” and “princess,” share chores, and describe themselves as deeply in love.

The unusual love story has sparked divided reactions. Supporters praised Azarashi’s youthful spirit and independence. Skeptics, however, questioned whether her younger husband might eventually leave for someone younger and prettier. Azarashi remains unfazed, “I accept whatever the future holds. As long as we’re happy now, that’s what matters most.”
