Former Girl Group Member Reveals How She Accidentally Became An Idol
Some people dream of becoming superstars and plan their futures accordingly, but that wasn’t the case for one unconventional idol. She became part of a girl group by accident.

Yang Chaoyue is a Chinese actress, singer, and former member of CH2 and Rocket Girls 101. Rocket Girls 101 was a Chinese project girl group formed through the 2018 reality show Produce 101 China. They debuted with eleven members on June 23, 2018 and disbanded on their two-year anniversary.

Recently, Yang chatted about how her desire to earn more money led to a major plot twist in her life story. “After I started working, my goal was very clear,” she said. “I wanted to make money, and I wanted to make more. So I looked online for new jobs that might give me a chance to change my situation.”

She decided to pursue modeling and streaming, an online industry that was flourishing at the time. But it seemed that fate had other plans!

In addition to streaming and modeling, Yang also worked various part-time jobs, including waitressing, garment making, and distributing flyers, before becoming an idol. In 2016, she ended up auditioning for a girl group contest hosted by the eSports game Battle of Balls, simply because the contest offered a 2,000 yuan (approximately $280 USD) payment, along with accommodations and meals.

Yang became the most popular contestant, and this eventually led to her debuting as a member of the 8-member girl group CH2 in 2017. That same year, Yang and three of her CH2 members were chosen to compete on Produce 101 China. After debuting with Rocket Girls 101 in 2018, Yang made her solo debut and her acting debut.

Since Rocket Girls 101’s disbandment, Yang has continued acting in Chinese TV series such as The Double and Love You Seven Times.
