3rd Generation Boy Group Member Reveals Secret Battle With Cancer
Singer Heo Seong Jeong from the group CLASSMATE has shocked fans after revealing he has been privately battling brain cancer for the past four years.
In a heartfelt message shared with fans, Heo disclosed that he first discovered the illness shortly after donating a kidney to his biological mother. Following the surgery, he was diagnosed with malignant glioma, a rare and aggressive form of brain tumor.
“I’d like to share something a bit heavy today. Four years ago, in December, I donated a kidney to my biological mother, who was very ill at the time. A month later, in January, I was diagnosed with malignant glioma—a type of brain cancer.
Fortunately, it was discovered at a very early stage, and I underwent craniotomy surgery to remove the tumor. However, since it was located between the language and motor function areas, I suffered aftereffects such as stuttering, slowed body responses, memory loss, delirium symptoms, and epilepsy accompanied by seizures.
It took an incredible amount of time and effort to recover enough to return to daily life, let alone to sing again. But thanks to the support and encouragement from so many people, I managed to regain my health and continued with regular follow-up checkups.”
Heo underwent craniotomy surgery to remove the tumor, which was located between the brain’s language and motor centers. The procedure left him with lasting side effects, including speech difficulties, memory loss, and epilepsy.
Despite the immense challenges, he fought to regain his health and gradually returned to daily life. However, his condition recently worsened when he experienced severe weight loss, indigestion, and breathing difficulties, leading doctors to suspect colon cancer.
“However, after the surgery, I lost 17 kilograms rapidly, and began experiencing unexplained indigestion and shortness of breath. After visiting the hospital, I was informed by my doctor that there is a possibility of colon cancer. I had another examination today. I’ve always felt sorry for being someone who can’t always be the “kind singer” or “kind friend” people deserve — someone who ends up causing worry instead. Still, I believe that no matter what the detailed test results show, I’ll overcome it. I’ll return with a smile on my face. Thank you.”
Fans have flooded social media with messages of support, praising Heo’s strength and courage. Many expressed heartbreak upon learning that the singer had endured such a long and painful struggle in silence.
