Celebrities Attending Another Charity Event Receive Heated Response Amid W Korea Debacle

Many A-listers were in attendance.

While the recent W Korea charity event, “Love Your W,” has received massive backlash for alleged insincere handling of the cause it claimed to support— raising awareness about breast cancer, another celebrity-filled charity event has drawn the attention of netizens.

The event in question is the Eoullim Marathon, an annual walking marathon, which promotes the inclusion, awareness, and mobility rights of visually impaired people. A key feature of this campaign is that both visually impaired and non-visually impaired people partake in the same marathon, highlighting the importance of inclusivity in social accessibility.

This year’s Eoullim Marathon was held on September 7, KST at the Seoul World Cup Stadium. One of the key figures attending the event was Girls’ Generation’s Sooyoung, who has been consistently involved with the cause since 2022 as the ambassador for the Korea Foundation Fighting Blindness. Apart from her, some other notable names that were seen at the marathon this year include SHINee’s Minho, Super Junior’s Eunhyuk, WSJN’s Dayoung, TV personality Jonathan Yiombi, actors Lim Si Wan, Shin Se Kyung, and Kang Tae Oh, among others.

Apart from posing with all the celebrities in attendance, Sooyoung also made a separate post highlighting the cause. The event reportedly raised around ₩300 million KRW (about $211,000 USD) for the cause, and the Girls’ Generation member took to her Instagram to thank every single contributor, sharing the credit with them.
