The Scandal That Nearly Ended A Marriage, Disbanded A K-Pop Group, And Landed An Idol In Jail
While scandals involving celebrities happen on a more than infrequent basis, usually they involve some sort of interpersonal issue, like cheating.
Even less frequently are scandals that result in legal consequences for those involved, especially prison sentences.
One such instance involved an actor, an idol, and a model, and ended with a prison sentence.
In 2012, when HYBE was still known BIGHIT Music, the agency debuted a girl group called GLAM.
The girl group were praised for their unique sound, and released 4 singles from the time of their debut til January 2014.
Later that year, actor Lee Byung Hun made shocking accusations against one of the members.
According to Lee Byung Hun, member Dahee and model Lee Ji Yeon, in exchange for not releasing a compromising video of him making sexual jokes while drinking with them, attempted to extort 5 billion[/krw] from him.
The pair were arrested on September 1, 2014, after giving Lee two suitcases to fill with money and he reported them to police.
The two women also had looked into flight to Europe to escape, which served to prove their guilt.
After the final trail in January 2015, Dahee was sentenced to a year in prison, while Ji Yeon received a year and two months.
Surprisingly, the women were released in March after having spent 6 months in jail due to Lee Byung Hun requesting a pardon and given a 2 year suspended sentence.
GLAM disbanded after Dahee was sentenced, while the scandal nearly ended Lee Byung Hun’s marriage to Lee Min Jung.
When it broke, she was pregnant with their child and moved in with her parents for a time, forgiving him after he made a public apology and came to their home to apologize to her.
Since the scandal, Lee Byung Hun has taken on several successful roles and has had two additional children with his wife.
Dahee, now know as Kim Si Won, began streaming as a BJ on AfreecaTV, while Lee Ji Yeon reportedly continued her career under a different name.
