Korean Media Reveals Current State Of “2025 MAMA Awards” In Light Of Hong Kong Fire

However, it was confirmed that instead of canceling, the ceremony will be held in a much more subdued and solemn atmosphere than originally planned. On this day as well, several artists had already departed for Hong Kong, leaving the committee with little choice.

Hello, this is the MAMA AWARDS Secretariat.

We are taking the seriousness of the current fire situation in the Tai Po region of Hong Kong very seriously, and the MAMA AWARDS organizing committee is rapidly discussing appropriate response measures for each category.

In addition to official responses related to the awards ceremony and event operations, we are also carefully reviewing matters concerning artist performances and award presentation scripts. We will share updates as soon as everything is finalized.

To prevent confusion and ensure accurate communication, we kindly ask for your cooperation in directing all external media and public inquiries through the CJ ENM and Mnet communications team.

Once again, we sincerely apologize for the concern caused to all artists and related parties, and the organizing committee will carefully review the situation and work to determine the best possible course of action.

Thank you.

At around 2pm on November 26, 2025 (local time), a large-scale fire broke out at a residential high-rise apartment complex in the Tai Po district of northern Hong Kong. At least 36 people have been confirmed dead and 279 remain missing due to the fire. Given that it was a high-rise residential building, there is a possibility the number of casualties could increase, as some residents were unable to escape.

The apartment complex where the fire occurred is located approximately 21km from Kai Tak Stadium, the venue for the 2025 MAMA Awards, and it takes about 20 minutes by car to travel between the two locations. In addition, Hong Kong native Chow Yun Fat and Malaysian Michelle Yeoh were scheduled to attend as presenters. The Hong Kong government has raised the fire alert level to the highest Level 5, marking the first time this has happened since the 2008 Mong Kok nightclub fire.
