As she began her beer mukbang, the actress admitted she can tolerate “four to five cans of beer” or “two bottles of beer and one bottle of soju.” In fact, when the production staff read out loud a past headline about her alcohol-centric diet, Song Ji Hyo admitted that she, at one point, did drink a lot more.

Producer: This headline says, “Song Ji Hyo’s daily diet consists of fasting until 5 PM and then eating side dishes with drinks.” Another one says, “Song Ji Hyo once drank eight bottles of soju with a friend.”

Song Ji Hyo: The eight bottles thing was when I was younger, but it is true.

But it was not necessarily the amount of alcohol that Song Ji Hyo could drink in one sitting that sparked concern; it was the frequency.

Until two weeks ago, I was drinking five times a week…

While the actress mentioned that she is considering cutting back a little in 2026, she flatly rejected the idea of quitting drinking altogether.

The video, capturing Song Ji Hyo visibly getting tipsier with each glass of beer, has since sparked “alcoholism” concerns for the actress.

  • “She’s an alcoholic.”
  • “She needs to stop boasting about her drinking problem. This is no different from a smoker acting proud of how many packs of cigarettes they go through in a day. But I think addiction to alcohol is more dangerous than addiction to nicotine. It’s not like a heavy smoker ever got themselves into trouble.”
  • “Isn’t she over 40 years old…? She’s going to have considerable health complications if she keeps that up. She’s already clearly addicted.”
  • “She has a drinking problem….”
  • “I saw a study that said alcoholism is a huge problem right now with more people living and eating alone. I think TV and other entertainment programs need to be more cautious about showing drinking. Korea is way too lenient with alcohol.”
  • “Omg… She legit has a drinking problem. Alcoholism is more about the frequency, not the amount.”
  • “I don’t get why, in Korea, people are so proud of how much they drink.”
