CORTIS Sparks Comparison With KISS OF LIFE After Recent TikTok
BIGHIT MUSIC’s freshest faces, CORTIS, have sparked a heated debate online with their recent TikTok.
The video in question was a Christmas special upload by the members where they were playing around in the HYBE building, lip-syncing to “It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas.” However, instead of a regular lip sync, they attempted to joke around, doing exaggerated gestures and gang signs, while wearing ski masks, sunglasses, and baggy pants.

The clip has rubbed many netizens the wrong way, who felt that CORTIS’s actions were an outright caricature of Black culture. Further, many pointed out that what they did on TikTok was no different than KISS OF LIFE’s problematic livestream, which effectively put a dent in their rising career. While some felt it was the privilege of belonging to a huge company like HYBE that shielded CORTIS from the same amount of backlash, others pointed to misogyny as the reason.

Some fans came to CORTIS’s defense, arguing that the video was not at the same level as KISS OF LIFE’s livestream.

On the other hand, many KISS OF LIFE fans argued that the girl group had apologized for their mistake and taken accountability, which CORTIS is yet to do despite being called out over the same issue before as well.
