The release took place on January 21, 2026 (KST), meaning it hit online platforms just over two weeks later. By the second week after release, cumulative ticket sales reached only 139,663, and the movie failed to crack the top 10 at the box office. With the breakeven point at 1 million viewers, the movie has since been dubbed a “total flop” amid scathing reviews.

  • “It was no more than some Gangnam unnies‘ streetside sh*tshow.”
  • “Do not expect the Korean audience to stay interested in K-Movies if y’all are going to write, invest in, and produce sh*t like this. You don’t deserve any attention.”
  • “I mean, they cast Han So Hee and Jeon Jong Seo and marketed the movie as a girls’ action one. But then they turned it into shenanigans from a couple of prostitutes. Are you kidding? The whole movie was basically watching them park their cars in the Gangnam bar alleys.”

Project Y initially generated high expectations thanks to the unique presence of lead actresses Han So Hee and Jeon Jong Seo. However, the results fell short of expectations. Harsh criticism poured in from both movie critics and viewers, calling it “extremely disappointing” and “truly unpleasant.”

  • “The plot and the title already seem like the movie wouldn’t succeed. It’s amazing someone even invested to make this.”
  • “I don’t even understand the actresses who agreed to do something like this. It’s so bizarre, they seem thoughtless.”
  • “Even at the Busan International Film Festival, the reviews were terrible, so I had no intention of watching it in theaters.”
  • “Gross.”
  • “I don’t think I’d even watch it on VOD. I have zero desire to see it.”
  • “Seriously, though? This is clearly a movie that won’t work. The premise is ridiculous.”
  • “Women don’t really like stories like this, but male directors seem to love prostitute characters. I don’t understand the obsession at all.”
  • “Look. Even though I like women-centered stories, I’m not going to watch anything  and everything just because women are in it.”
  • “The director is the problem. This has been the case since Park Hwa Young and Young Adult Matters. Investors should just stop giving him any money.”
