In his lawsuit, Lee claimed that the dating rumors were originally spread by Chau, and he has been plagued by them for a decade, severely affecting his personal life. His legal representatives argued that Chau encouraged these speculations to increase her popularity and advance her acting career.

The controversy originally sprouted in 2016, when Chau was promoting one of her movies. At that time, some media outlets reported that the actress was in a relationship with a second-generation wealthy heir who was already married.

As rumors spread online, netizens speculated that the married heir in question was Lee Ka Shing, marking the beginning of widespread, long-running speculation about the supposed relationship between the two. Over the past 10 years, numerous types of content have been pushed across mainstream media based on these speculations. Some even claimed that Lee had been financially supporting Chau all these years.

Things escalated significantly in 2025 when Chau was asked during an interview whether the rumors of a relationship with a wealthy man were true, and she responded, “I don’t know that person at all.”

Her veiled reference, Lee claimed, reignited the rumors. At that time, his family was mourning the passing of his father, making the situation even more painful. As speculations continued to snowball out of control, the 54-year-old business mogul decided to take the legal route to clear his name and protect his family.

Lee Ka Shing is the chairman of Hong Kong’s Henderson Land Development and one of the richest men in the country. In fact, he was named the wealthiest person in Hong Kong by Forbes in 2022. Meanwhile, Chrissie Chau, born in 1985, debuted as a model in 2009 and rose to fame quickly for her sexy image. She transitioned into film eventually and has earned multiple accolades, establishing herself as a serious actress in the Hong Kong film industry.
