The discourse stemmed from a now-viral post on X (formerly Twitter), which made a side-by-side comparison of Yunjin and NMIXX‘s Lily covering Chappell Roan‘s “The Subway.”

The song, which is known for its demanding vocalization, was covered by both idols during candid live streams. While Lily appeared to be hitting the high notes with ease and a healthy technique, Yunjin seemed to be struggling to find the right vocal placement while shakily hitting most of the notes.

The clips immediately sparked a heated discussion about Yunjin’s vocals, with many comparing them to her Produce 101-era. There seemed to be a consensus about her skills having worsened since joining HYBE.

This, however, isn’t the first time fans have expressed their concern over Yunjin’s seemingly worsening vocal skills under the label.
