Actor Oh Dal Soo, who was previously swept up in allegations of sexual misconduct and assault, has spoken to the press for the first time after a month of silence.

In a recent exclusive interview with Edaily conducted in Busan, Oh Dal Soo explained why he stepped away from the public after being named during the “Me Too” movement.

He said that while he understood the importance of quickly presenting a clear and accurate statement, becoming a sudden subject of the movement left him feeling confused and fearful that any premature comment could be reported incorrectly.

Regarding claims from individuals who alleged sexual harassment and assault, Oh Dal Soo stated that he wanted to apologize again to the two women.

“I believe that, regardless of the situation, it is right to present a clear, accurate, and prompt position. However, when I suddenly became the subject of the Me Too movement, it was very confusing. I was afraid that even a single word spoken carelessly might be reported prematurely.

I would like to once again apologize to the two women. However, I am not a rapist or a sexual offender. I have not lived that way. If there were women who were hurt in relationships with me during my immature twenties, I want to apologize for that alone and reproach my younger self. But I cannot accept living my entire life labeled a “rapist” based on the words of those two individuals.”

However, he emphasized that he does not consider himself a rapist or sexual offender. He said that if any women were hurt during relationships with him in his youth, he wanted to apologize for that and reflect on his younger self. At the same time, he said he could not accept being labeled a “rapist” for the rest of his life based on those claims. Oh Dal Soo also addressed his apology to one accuser who claimed sexual assault while maintaining that he does not believe the situation constituted assault. However, he reiterated that he cannot acknowledge that he committed sexual assault.

“I believe that when a man and a woman engage in a sexual relationship, their intentions may not always completely align. The greater that difference is, the more it can be considered sexual assault. If a woman who was in a relationship with me remembers that experience as painful, then I believe it is right to apologize first, without hesitation.”

Oh Dal Su was implicated in the #MeToo movement in 2018 when an actress accused him of sexual harassment. He initially denied the accusations but further accusations were made against him on JTBC‘s Newsroom. In the end, he admitted to sexual harassment and apologized to the victims.

Since his acknowledgment, he halted his activities for a few years, living on Geoje Island and passing his time by farming. His case was closed without a formal investigation due to the statute of limitations expiring as the events happened in the 1990s.
