Amid the ongoing discussions about weight and body image in K-Pop, aespa‘s Ningning has been brought up on more than one occasion.

Recently, the idol revealed her weight, which sparked more discussions and accusations of her being fatphobic due to her response to a question about her weight.
As the criticism increased, Ningning went live to defend herself, directly responding to the discussions surrounding her. The idol questioned why her words were being perceived negatively, reminding that she said that health was most important regardless of weight and that being slim was not important. Near the end of the clip below, she also mentions that she is trying to live life with the same mindset.
“idk why people suddenly take my words so negatively. the thing I said at the end was that everyone should be healthy and always eat well regardless of their weight and being slim isn't important” “my point is I hope you're healthy and eat well and live well but they blow up only… pic.twitter.com/RMWJKrC1Cd

Though her words made sense, as health is most important, many were left feeling skeptical and further criticized the idol. Some still felt that her reaction to possibly being a higher weight was “fatphobic” as previously perceived and proving “encouragement.”
maybe because when you joke abt being 55kg before that maybe this would be taken badly, just a guess https://t.co/O1WYxGfmQk

"i laughed at the thought of being 55kg as if that isnt a healthy weight for most people even tho i was that weight a couple years ago but its okayyyy because i said at the end being healthy is what matters🥹" https://t.co/bCFs9aiVJN

telling people to "stay healthy" right after sharing u weigh 40kg on a livestream and then joking about weighing a normal amount isn't going to make things better, just apologize and stop sharing unnecessary shit like that on live, it is really not that hard https://t.co/0sBWtZYxFJ

Still, many defended Ningning, commenting that it was unfair her words to be misconstrued and that she felt that she needed to explain herself further.
It's so sad to see a WOMAN again explaining and defending herself from all these build-up misinformations created just to satisfy their hatred https://t.co/MR3AwTqcIi

no matter how many times women will have to explain themselves these people will still not listen and miss her entire point and will still try and argue back with petty bs cause they have such a high vendetta against aespa so their opinions are just automatically invalid https://t.co/Fvm7uC3qyb

will never forget how people twisted her words, jumped her and also those who believed it and all the misinformation being spread like im genuinely sick of how everyone is always on aespa's ass without them doing anything… you all are going to hell https://t.co/r9n5tozclx
