Top Actor Handed To Prosecution On Charges Of Rape

A popular male actor is under investigation for sexual assault.

On March 11, KST, MBN reported that top musical actor Nam Kyung Ju has been handed over to the prosecutio on charges of sexual assault. The Seoul Bangbae Police Station sent the actor to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office last month on charges of rape by force.

Nam stands accused of raping a woman, “A,” in Seoul last year. The victim reportedly fled the scene at that time and later reported it to the police. The actor strongly denied the allegation and claimed that there was no rape. However, the police investigation secured physical evidence that supported the victim’s testimony and could prove that the alleged crime occured at that time. Hence, the case was haneded over to the prosecution.

In a statement to Dispatch, Nam Kyung Ju claimed that the investigation was still in process and declined to comment on any specific details. However, his social media account was confirmed to be closed the very day the report was made public. He had been frequently communciating with fans through his account before that. The news has left the public, as well as the performing arts community in deep shock.

Meanwhile, Nam debuted in 1984 with the musical Porgy and Bess, and has been a part of several popular productions including Les Misérables, Rent, Mamma Mia, Wicked, and Annie. He currently works as an associate professor in the Department of Performing Arts at Hongsik University.
