K-Rock Legend Says IU Made Him $66K In Just Months

Korean rock legend Boohwal‘s Kim Tae Won revealed that he made about ₩100 million KRW (about $66,400 USD) in copyright royalties for Q1, all thanks to IU.

In the March 22, 2026 (KST) episode of KBS‘s Boss In The Mirror, the rock band guitarist and producer shared that he will be releasing a new song titled “The Wind Blowing On The Sail” on March 28, his first new release in a decade.

To that, comedian Kim Sook commented, “That sounds like another masterpiece in the making,” adding, “You already have so many hit songs, I bet your royalties are huge.”

Kim Tae Won admitted that some of his biggest hits do bring him significant income, especially “Never Ending Story” after IU’s remake. The rock legend then expressed his gratitude toward the K-Pop idol, confirming that his first-quarter royalties from that song alone reached ₩100 million KRW (about $66,400 USD)!
