Boy Group Trainee Undergoes Gender Transition, Shifts To New Career
A former idol hopeful, Chae Ryu Jin, has drawn the attention of netizens after sharing her current whereabouts following a gender transition.

Chae Ryu Jin first came into the public eye as a contestant on the Mnet survival program Boys24. She participated under her birth name, Chae Ho Cheol, at that time. Despite not making the final debut lineup, she was selected as a member of a 28-member performance team. Chae promoted with that team for about a year.

After Boys24, Chae re-debuted under the name Ryujei as a part of JWiiver, a multinational boy group. However, the group became inactive almost immediately after its debut promotions. At that time, Chae completely stepped away from the idol industry. In July last year, Chae finally shared with the world that she identified as a woman, later revealing that she had also changed her name from Chae Ho Cheol to Chae Ryu Jin legally.
Now, Chae is active as an influencer and posts content related to fashion, makeup, and travel frequently on social media. In a recently circulating video, she was seen doing promotional activities in a maid outfit on a street in Japan, reigniting public intrigue about her career. Turns out, the video clip was taken while Chae was filming her vlog of visiting a Maid Café in Japan.

In her most recent social media post, Chae was seen dancing to Yena‘s song “Catch Catch,” with many netizens praising her visuals to resemble the singer.

As an influencer, Chae has been extremely transparent about her past and continues to talk about her transition in an educational manner. Her content has given space to healthy conversation about transgender identity and serves as a safe space for people who identify with her journey.
