99-Pound Idol Reveals Doctor’s Warnings After Extreme Weight Loss Took A Dangerous Turn
GFRIEND’s Yuju opened up about the dangerous effects of extreme weight loss, revealing that her health deteriorated to a shocking point while preparing for solo music.

In the latest episode of KBS’s Ask Us Anything Fortune Teller, Yuju appeared as a guest and shared her concerns about losing her appetite whenever she begins preparing for a solo album.
According to Yuju, the issue started after transitioning from group activities to solo promotions. While preparing albums on her own, she found herself becoming increasingly sensitive and unable to eat.
When I was promoting with the group and then started solo activities, whenever I began preparing for an album, my appetite would go completely to zero. It started affecting me.

When hosts Seo Jang Hoon and Lee Soo Geun asked about her height and weight, Yuju revealed, “When I was promoting with GFRIEND, I was around 5’5″ (169 cm) and 115 lbs (52 kg), but recently I dropped to around 99 lbs (45 kg).”
Dipping under 100 pounds, Yuju admitted that her initial mindset about weight loss stemmed from the belief that being thinner would make her look better on screen.

At first, I had this careless thought that if I lost weight, I would look prettier.

However, things soon became dangerous. Yuju revealed that she once collapsed while alone at home and later regained consciousness. She also became unable to eat properly, saying that even three spoonfuls of rice felt like too much.

At some point, problems started happening. I collapsed at home by myself and then woke up. Also, even after eating just three spoonfuls of rice, I couldn’t eat anymore, so I underwent an endoscopy for the first time.

Doctors eventually told her that her digestive organs appeared normal and suggested that the issue may have been psychological. Yuju shared that she was even recommended psychiatric treatment.
They said my stomach and digestive organs were normal, but for people like me, the cause can be psychological rather than gastrointestinal. I think that was when I realized I had become much more sensitive and stressed than I thought.

The singer also revealed another alarming incident from the recording studio. While recording, Yuju noticed that one side of her ear sounded strange, prompting her to visit the hospital. There, she was told something unexpected: she had lost so much weight that even the fat in her eardrum had been affected. “Apparently, even the human eardrum has a certain necessary amount of fat. But because I was preparing for an album, they said even the fat in my eardrum had disappeared,” she shared.

Yuju said the doctor gave her a blunt warning.
They told me, ‘You need to eat before taking medicine.’

To that, Seo Jang Hoon also reminded Yuju that true effort does not mean pushing her body to the point of collapse. He added that her voice would naturally be different depending on whether she was well-fed and in good condition, stressing the importance of taking care of her health first.
You need to think about what truly means doing your best. A song sung right before you become dizzy or collapse will not deliver energy.
— Seo Jang Hoon
Yuju’s confession has since drawn concern, as fans were shocked to hear how far the idol’s weight loss had gone during her album preparations.
