5 of BTS Suga’s Past Interviews Which Share The Same Sentiment With “SUGA’s Interlude”

“I just want to let everyone know that I am as anxious as they are.”

On December 6, 2019, Halsey released a collaborative track with BTS‘s Suga, titled “SUGA’s Interlude”. This introspective song, about separating “the time in between the having it all and giving it up”, well portrays Suga’s — and really everyone else’s — insecurities about the future. In fact, Suga has always been open about his vulnerability; and his most average and human tendency to fear the uncertainties of life has strangely comforted his equally-anxious ARMYs. And likewise, Suga’s music, like “SUGA’s Interlude”, has helped him and his listeners to fight against those low moments of self-doubt. Here are 5 of Suga’s previous interviews which shed light on his most personal moments of fear… and shared with the world that it’s okay to be a little scared.

1. Yonhap Interview, February 2018

I think anxiety and loneliness are eternal to life. And I personally spend a lot of time thinking about how to relieve those anxious and lonely thoughts. Each moment and each emotion is different and life is all about looking into those differences… I just want to let everyone know that I am as anxious as they are. It’s a process, but we can always think about how to overcome this together.

2. D-icon Interview, April 2018

I cry a lot these days. It might be a sense of relief, it might be a sense of fear. It could be happiness, it could be sorry. I’m overwhelmed with a complicated mix of emotions… I feel like I’m flying too high. I can see so much, I can see so far. I thought beyond the clouds, I’d be happy and nothing else. But looking down, I do feel scared.

3. Burn The Stage Documentary, May 2018

I don’t know how many more years I’ll be able to make music and perform. But I’m sure the years remaining outnumber the years I’ve been at it. Yet I’m still scared. I don’t know what I should be doing. I keep thinking to myself there is such a long way to go… and I’m enduring. I’m moving forward.

Bu I’ve always been scared of being in front of a lot of people. Honestly, it has been that way since I was a trainee. Even today, I still feel intimidated by large groups of people — when I’m away from the stage, doing average daily things.

4. FESTA, June 2018

After the AMAs… On the day we performed at the AMAs, I ended up crying in the shower. Those weren’t tears of accomplishment, those were tears of fear. This… This is so much more than I had ever imagined and thought possible. For me, none of it had been expected. So I suddenly felt so helpless in front of the enormous pressure about the future…

5. The Guardian Interview, October 2018

Fame is like a shadow. There’s light and there’s darkness; it’s something that follows you constantly and not something you can run away from… I think there were times we were pretty close to burning out, but it’s inevitable and it’s the same for people in any profession.
