2NE1’s Minzy Files An Appeal Against Recent Court Ruling Regarding Her Contract With Music Works

She’s not giving up.

Former 2NE1 member, Gong Minzy, recently filed a lawsuit against her agency, Music Works, in order to nullify their contract. Back in October, Minzy filed the lawsuit claiming the agency did not withhold their end of the contract. She asked for her contract to be terminated and to be compensated ₩50 million KRW (~$43,000 USD) in damages.

The court dismissed her lawsuit earlier this month, and Minzy has now reportedly submitted an appeal against the ruling.

She recently uploaded a message explaining why she decided to separate from her agency and how they lost her trust.

I think I will have to begin a new, long legal battle with my agency. When I signed the contract, my agency promised to help me release at least 4 albums per year. They promised to give me their best support, but I only released 1 album within the 4 years and they barely supported my promotions. They never once showed me the invoices, and they they did not pay me even a penny out of the profits.

As an artist, continuing my promotions is more important than money or anything else. That’s why I wanted to quickly end our contract through negotiations but since that didn’t happen, there is no other way for me to reveal the truth than through a lawsuit.

Even if it’s just for my fans who continually depend on me and cheer me on, I will continue to fight. I promise to always show an unchanging honest and strong side to myself whether it be on stage or the public.

Minzy left YG Entertainment back in 2016, and signed with Music Works to pursue a solo career. She released her first solo abum in 2017 and an English track in 2018, but has not released any new projects in 2019.
