7 References To Past BTS Songs That You Might Have Missed In “ON” & Map Of The Soul: 7

How many did you catch?

In true BTS fashion, Map of the Soul: 7 and the “ON” Kinetic Manifesto Film contain plenty of references to past tracks. Here are 7 of the biggest ones you might have missed.

1. “ON” referencing “IDOL”

There were so many powerful moves in the “ON” Kinetic Manifesto Film, you may have missed that Suga‘s kick was a reference to the same move in the “IDOL” choreography.

2. “ON”’ referencing “Blood, Sweat & Tears”

Did you notice that the “ON” bridge references another single by BTS? In the bridge, Jungkook sings, “my everything, my blood and tears”.

Spot it now? It’s a direct reference to “Blood, Sweat & Tears” from the Wings album.

Like Wings, it looks like “ON” also references the book Demian by Hermann Hesse. In the Wings short film, Jungkook and RM give a narration that includes a line from the book: “Two different worlds coming from two opposite poles”. In “ON”, one of the Korean chorus lines translates to “throw myself whole into both two worlds”.

3. “Shadow” referencing “No More Dream” & “Home”

Map of the Soul: 7 features an extended version of “Interlude: Shadow”, and the new verse includes a reference to two BTS songs: their debut, “No More Dream”, and “Home” from Map of the Soul: Persona.

In “Interlude: Shadow”, Suga raps “[you have a] big house, big cars, big rings” in English. A similar line appeared in “No More Dream”—“I want a big house, big cars, and big rings”. The lyric appeared yet again in “Home” as “dream of big house, big cars, big rings”.

4. “My Time” referencing “Let Me Know”

In Jungkook’s “My Time”, the last line of the chorus is “let me know”.

Many fans have speculated that the line is a reference to “Let Me Know”, one of BTS’s older songs from their Dark & Wild album.

5. “Respect” referencing “Move”

If RM yelling “Ayo, Suga” at the beginning of “Respect” sounded familiar to you, it’s because you’ve definitely heard it before.

“Move” (also known as “Moving On”) from The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Pt.1 starts in the same way.

6. “Respect” referencing “Young Forever”

Another reference in “Respect” is the line which translates to “money, fame, forward, forward”.

“In Young Forever”, there’s a very similar line with the same cadence: “dreams, hopes, forward, forward”.

7. “We Are Bulletproof: The Eternal” referencing “We Are Bulletproof: Part 2”

Given that this track is evidently part of the “We Are Bulletproof” series, it’s no surprise that it references “We Are Bulletproof: Part 2”.

In “Part 2”, there’s a line that translates to “throw stones at me”. The same line appears in “The Eternal”, except this time it’s followed by something more inspirational: “We don’t fear anymore”.
