Super Junior’s Siwon receives criticisms from Muslim fans over Instagram post

On December 8th, Siwon uploaded a picture of Kangin on Instagram which received mixed reviews from their Muslim fans.

The picture showed Kangin in a blue robe over a red sweatshirt onstage during rehearsals. Siwon captioned the picture “Muhammad Kangin,” which sparked outraged from their Muslim fans with his use of the name of their prophet, Muhammad. Some fans, however, defended the star and appreciated his reference to famous boxer, Muhammad Ali.

This recent issue comes after recent criticisms from the Muslim community over their misrepresentation of their religion through their promotional materials and SNS posts. Just last month, rapper Loco and girl group WA$$UP had to apologize for their usage of chants and symbols that are sacred to the religious community.
