Idol Suddenly Quits Her Girl Group, Announces A Shocking Career Change
A former idol has abruptly left the stage, but she isn’t leaving the spotlight. If anything, her new career might make her a more visible public figure than ever before.

Until very recently, Matsuura Nana was a member of the Japanese idol girl group dela. She joined the group, which debuted in 2012, in 2021 and left on January 21, 2026.

Within 24 hours of leaving dela, Nana announced that she will be going into politics and running for Japan’s House of Representatives.

On January 22, Nana, who is now going by her real name Uragami Nana, revealed her candidacy for the upcoming general election at a press conference in Nagoya, Japan.
I’m 25 years old, a member of the younger generation, and I’m determined to realise politics that takes responsibility for the future. I am ready to take on that role. Centred on self-sacrificing reforms, I will push forward with economic revitalisation, measures to combat the declining birth-rate, and educational reform.
— Uragami Nana
According to her official profile, this ambitious ex-idol previously worked in IT and graduated from Nanzan University’s Faculty of Law before she made her idol debut.
