Girl Group’s Leader Gets Demoted Just 1 Day After Another Member Gets Fired
The leader of a popular girl group has lost her position as part of her punishment for breaking the rules. The announcement comes shortly after the group’s agency announced another member’s departure.

Konoka Riri is a 26-year-old member of the Japanese idol girl groups iLiFE!, GILTY×GILTY, and HEROINES (a supergroup that includes multiple groups under its umbrella, including iLiFE! and GILTYxGILTY). She is also a former member of Yumeiro H!L!T and Link STAR.

On August 26, iLiFE!’s agency, imaginate, announced that Riri had been stripped of her leader position and would be subjected to additional penalties due to unspecified “inappropriate behaviour” that violated their rules. The agency issued their statement after a video of Riri went viral on X (formerly Twitter), racking up over 24 million views. In the video, Riri can be seen snuggling with a man as he appears to kiss her.
On X, Riri confirmed that she was in the leaked video, which she said was taken during the summer of 2023. She expressed her regret for causing problems for her group and said that she understands if fans have lost trust in her.

On X, netizens have defended Riri. They slammed the agency for demoting her and for kicking another member out of the group on August 25.
