Over 4000 Koreans Demand Lee Hongki’s Execution For Watching A Controversial Livestreamer

Lee Hongki has responded to the backlash through a social media post.

FTISLAND‘s Lee Hongki has been receiving heavy backlash from netizens after he was spotted in the chatroom of a problematic BJ’s (Broadcast Jockey) live stream.

The controversy all started when Hongki was seen in the chatroom of BJ Chulgoo‘s stream.  Chulgoo is known for his questionable content, such as promoting violence towards women, mocking historical movements, and making fun of people who receive financial assistance from the government.

This led to netizens accusing Hongki of supporting the controversial BJ. The heavy backlash then led to an official government petition, calling for his execution.

The petition translates to “We petition for the execution of Hongki,” and has 4,829 signatures as of this writing.

Due to the severe criticism received by netizens, Hongki posted a response on his Instagram page, denying any support for Chulgoo.

“You guys are driving me crazy. I didn’t watch him doing the gross things you guys are saying he did, but I was looking at this and that in the morning, and happened to see his stream by chance.” — Hongki

Believing that Hongki was being “arrogant” with his response, netizens started another government petition demanding his punishment.

The petition translates to “Punish the arrogant celebrity Lee Hongki” and has 9 signatures as of this writing.

His fans have come to his defense, however, believing that many netizens have gone too far. Yet another government petition was started, demanding the removal of all petitions against Hongki.

The petition translates to “Remove the petition pertaining to celebrity and singer Lee Hongki” and has 10,300 signatures as of this writing.

“You guys are driving me crazy. I didn’t watch him doing the gross things you guys are saying he did, but I was looking at this and that in the morning, and happened to see his stream by chance. What, now you’re saying you lost affection for me? If you knew me well, you would know I am not that kind of person. Why are you going crazy for some type of explanation. If you lost affection, I can’t help that. But it’s not like that so let’s not talk about it anymore.”
