How BLACKPINK’s Jennie Prepared For Her First Ever Appearance At The “Met Gala”

Here’s 5 things that happened before she appeared on the red carpet.

It was only a matter of time before BLACKPINK‘s Jennie was invited to the Met Gala, an annual fundraising event where only top stars grace the red carpet.

As a modern day fashion icon, she was tapped by CHANEL, the brand where she is a global ambassador, to show off a vintage dress they recreated from 1990. She stunned everyone with her visuals in the gorgeous retro look.

To see how she prepared beforehand to attain the end results shown on cameras, keep on reading!

1. Makeup

First up, Jennie tried to relax for the big event while she had her makeup done by Won Jo Yeon (Joynara). They deliberately chose a simple color palette and minimalist execution, allowing her features to shine brightest.

For my makeup, we wanted to do different shades of pink and mixtures of different colors. We have sparkles happening on my eye and we wanted to keep the rest of my face a little matte.

2. Hair

After her makeup was completed, she jumped straight to her hair. She wore a plaited braid reminiscent of the traditional ko meori hairstyle worn in the Joseon dynasty. It was a meaningful nod to her Korean culture.

The inspiration for my hair was…we wanted to bring a little bit of our Korean culture. This braided hair reminded us of a Korean traditional look.

3. Appreciating the Extras

A quick view of the other items in Jennie’s hotel room showed the gifts she was given by CHANEL. One of them was a handwritten card from the brand, welcoming her to New York and attending the Met Gala in honor of Karl Lagerfeld, their former creative director.

4. Dressing Up

Afterwards, it was time for Jennie to put on her outfit. She described it as, “a classic, timeless white mini dress.”

Needless to say, she was extremely satisfied with the final outcome.

This is my final look for my first Met Gala. I’m so happy to see how everything came out with my gloves and the camellias and everything.

5. Accessorizing

Last but certainly not the least, Jennie completed her attire with cool toned jewelry from CHANEL as well. The white gold and diamonds flattered the classic black and white outfit that she had on.

She accessorized with the 18-carat “Ruban Earrings” which retails for over $20,000 USD a pair.
